AI Policy
Bambu Langkawi is a small team. We use AI tools to keep the cost of running this site down, and we use them for some of our copy and for illustrative images. This page explains where AI is used, where it is not, and what a person does before anything goes live.
The short version
- A person reads, fact-checks and edits every guide before it is published.
- AI may help with outlines, first drafts of some sections, summaries, headline options and illustrative images.
- AI does not write our first-hand experience, reviews, quotes, ratings, prices or safety advice.
- AI images are stylised illustrations. They are never presented as photos of a real place, business or person, and their image descriptions say so.
- Photos of Bambu Getaway are always real photos.
- If we break a rule on this page, tell us and we will fix it.
Why we use AI
A good Langkawi guide takes research time, and drafting and illustration are a large part of the cost. AI tools let us spend more of that time on checking facts and on the parts only people who live here can write, and they help keep the site free to read. We would rather say so plainly than hide it.
Where we use AI
Copy. We may use AI to:
- sort and summarise our own notes and official sources;
- suggest outlines and structure;
- draft some background or "how it works" sections, which a person then rewrites and checks;
- tighten wording, suggest headlines, meta descriptions and FAQ phrasing, and check translations.
Images. We may use AI to create hero and inline illustrations for guides where a documentary photo is not needed. See AI images below.
Where we do not use AI
- To invent first-hand experience, quotes, testimonials, reviews or ratings.
- To state prices, opening hours, ferry times, visa, customs, health or safety information that has not been checked against an official or primary source and dated.
- To create photos or illustrations of real, identifiable people.
- To show Bambu Getaway, or any specific real business, attraction or landmark, as if an AI image were a real photo of it.
- To mass-produce pages in order to chase search rankings.
- To copy, or lightly reword, another publisher's article.
How every guide is reviewed
- A named person on our team reads the whole draft.
- Facts, figures and names are checked against official or primary sources, and time-sensitive details are dated.
- Anything an AI tool drafted is rewritten and edited so that it carries our own experience and voice. Generic filler is cut.
- Any link between us and a place we write about, including Bambu Getaway and free or sponsored experiences, is disclosed. See Advertising and affiliate disclosure.
- Images are checked, their alt text says when they are illustrative, and we keep an internal record of the tool, prompt and date.
- A person approves the guide before it is published.
A guide is not published until a person has approved it.
AI images
AI images on this site are stylised editorial illustrations. They set a mood. They are not documentary photos of a specific spot. You can recognise them because the image description (alt text) says "illustrative" or "evocative of".
When we make an AI image we follow these limits:
- no readable brand names, logos or signage;
- no recognisable real people;
- no prompts that name living artists, fictional characters or brands;
- no image designed to be mistaken for news, evidence or a real event;
- we discard results that closely resemble a known work, logo or person.
When a guide needs to show a real place, we use our own photographs, or a licensed or openly licensed photo with its credit shown, not an AI image. See Copyright and corrections.
Copyright and AI content
We own the copyright in the text, photographs and page design that we create ourselves. AI-generated material is treated differently by law. In January 2025 the United States Copyright Office concluded that material generated by AI from prompts alone is not protected by copyright, while a person's own writing, edits, and creative selection and arrangement can be protected. Other countries take different or still-developing positions. For that reason we do not claim exclusive rights over unedited AI output, and we do not promise that every AI illustration on this site is protected. Our Terms of Use still ask you to ask before reusing our content.
To keep the risk of copying someone else's work low, we:
- use tools whose terms allow commercial use of what they produce;
- keep a record of the tool, prompt and date for each AI image and AI-assisted draft;
- do not paste other publishers' articles into AI tools to be rewritten;
- check distinctive phrases in AI-assisted drafts for close matches elsewhere;
- remove or replace anything that a rights holder reasonably objects to while we look into it.
Disclosure and the law
Some rules ask publishers to label AI content. For example, Article 50 of the EU AI Act, which applies from 2 August 2026, requires disclosure of AI-generated or manipulated images that look like real people, places or events, and of AI-generated text published to inform the public on matters of public interest, unless the text has had real human review or editorial control by someone who holds editorial responsibility. We wrote this policy with rules like that in mind: our illustrations are labelled as illustrative and are not made to look like real events, and our text goes through the human review above. We state our AI use here so that you do not have to guess. This page is not legal advice.
Your data and AI tools
Our rule is that messages and personal details sent to us by readers are not pasted into AI tools. The AI tools we do use process the prompts and files we give them under their own terms. See our Privacy Policy.
Mistakes and how to tell us
AI tools can produce confident mistakes, which is why people check our work. If you find an error, or think we have used AI in a way that breaks this policy, tell us. We correct errors and say when we did. See our corrections policy.
Changes to this policy
AI tools and the rules around them change quickly. We will update this page when our practice changes and change the date at the top.
